My Dream Woman
So this is my version of how it all went down. For certain the first time I met Yara was at my house. Ok ok, well it was my parents house but I was renting it with my first roommate in life, my younger brother Morgan.
Morgan was on summer break from college and decided he was going to have a summer house party. Now of course my brother and I attended the same family events but never had we partied together.
I remember in the days leading to the party Morgan never picked up the phone and made phone calls or mailed invitations, which is the opposite of what I would have done. He mentioned that he reached out to a few people on the internet. To this day I barely use social media.
Needless to say I had no faith in the party coming together so I made other plans.
The Night of The Party
By the time I got dressed and ready to leave, the house was full of people. Some of his friends I remember coming to the house growing up. After catching up with a few folks I remember thinking to myself “man its some pretty women in here.” Morgan is only four years younger than me. “Let me do a quick walk through the house and see the sights.” As I made my way from the top floor and through the crowd I felt good. I had on my new shoes, fresh jeans, a cool graphic T-shirt, a new Dodge Charger parked outside, and I was on my way to the city, life could get no better than this.
As I continued my stroll down the first flight of stairs shaking hands, giving folks the cool head nod I started to realize that this was going to be a really good party. There had to be over 70 people in the house and it was a good looking crowd. By the time I got to the basement level I had seen enough. I was staying home that night. I looked to my left and there was Yara sitting in one of my bar stools next to like five other young ladies. Of course she wasthe prettiest one! I decided to drop her a smooth line.
The only thing I could think to say was “hey I am a personal trainer, you are a beautiful woman and you should try to sit up straight because it will make you look better” and proceeded to go into the science of good posture.
Corny, I know but she was nice about it. We talked for a bit but when she told me she was still in college and younger than Morgan, I think we immediately put each other in the friend zone because of our age difference. We kept in touch for some time. We had great conversations. I started to develop a little crush on her but she was always talking about guys she was dating or fun things she was doing in school at University of Miami (UM). I also was consumed with trying to be the best personal trainer in D.C. my side hustle, applying to grad school, and making a brand for myself as a city planner in my professional career.
Our “First” Date
As time went by we kept in contact. The next November my birthday month, I decided to take a cruise with some friends that was leaving from Miami. Yara was attending her last year at UM. I decided to go down a day early and visit her and party a little bit before taking the trip. As fate had it, I missed my flight and was frustrated and upset by the time I got to Miami. Luckily for me I had Yara. She was my light house that night and every night since! She came and got me from the hotel, we ate, took a nice romantic walk on the beach, I gave her a piggy back ride for as long as I could which had to be like 6 or 8 city blocks (ok maybe not that long). But it was perfect! I felt like this was the beginning of the rest of my life.
I remember us being on the beach with the sound of the waves rushing ashore, sand in my shoes, thinking now is the perfect time for a kiss, as I closed my eyes and moved in I was met with only the still of the night LOL. Confident in myself I thought Ha she not ready yet! Now to me that was our first real date….
Yara will give you another story which in my book we were already together. We’ve been together ever since. I can not imagine doing anything without Yara. She is the kindest, most gentle woman I have ever known. To know her is to love her. Which is why I know that I am the luckiest man on this earth!
November is sweet November for us. It’s the month of our first date, almost first kiss, the month I proposed, and now the month of our marriage. Thank you all for allowing me to share SWEET November, we look forward to seeing you all soon!
